Dear John,

For 24 years, we’ve been protecting the iconic and irreplaceable thick-billed parrot. Once dispersing seeds across forests from Mexico to the U.S., experts now estimate only 2,000 individuals remain in a small segment of old forests in northwest Mexico.

Despite constant threats of extinction from habitat loss and devastating wildfires, I'm excited to share the story of how a 10-person community fire brigade in Chihuahua, Mexico, became the first line of defense against wildfires that threatened some of their last-remaining habitat and critical nesting sites – with astonishing results.

Read the full story, deeply linked with Wildlands Network History, to learn how the community’s heroic efforts are contributing to the resilience of entire ecosystems and ensuring a thriving future for this remarkable species.

For the wild,

We know big changes to U.S. government policy are in store. However, habitat connectivity conservation has consistently cultivated bi-partisan support. We’re confident that we can continue transcending party lines and building bridges to a better future for wildlife and communities. Read more about our path forward here!
