This Thanksgiving is a perfect moment to reflect on the many blessings we have as Nebraskans and as Americans. Our nation has its challenges, but there is so much we can be thankful for. As I travel across our great state, I meet with neighbors in towns large and small. I’ve been reminded again and again of the strength, decency, and character of the people here in Nebraska. So let us pause, give thanks, and remember what makes our state and country truly special.

We ought to be very grateful we live in Nebraska. We live in the best place in the world. From the smallest farming community to downtown Omaha, there is a deep sense of pride in our people. What strikes me most is the kindness and generosity of Nebraskans. Whether it’s helping a neighbor after a tornado or flood, supporting local charities, or just looking out for one another, Nebraskans take care of each other. This spirit of charity is one of the many things that make our state a wonderful place to live. 

I’ve also seen firsthand the patriotism that runs deep in our communities. In every town, you’ll see flags flying high. We honor the women and men who’ve served our country. Whether its veterans returning home or young people joining the military, the respect for those who defend our freedom is evident. It’s a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in a country where we can freely speak our minds, worship as we choose, and pursue our dreams. Our nation is the land of the free and the home of the brave. We should be grateful this is our home. 

We’re also blessed to live in a state where the land itself offers so much. From our rangeland in the west to the rich cropland in the east, Nebraska is a place where hard work pays off. Our farmers and ranchers feed and fuel the world. Our agriculture producers power our state’s economy. And they do it with pride, year after year. I’ve seen the long hours they put in and the sacrifices they make to ensure Nebraska continues to thrive. Their dedication to their craft, their families, and their communities is something we should all be thankful for.

But it’s not just the land or the work that defines us. More than anything else, it’s our people. Nebraskans are a humble, hard-working people. We know how to do things right. We value family, faith, and community.  We let our values and common sense guide us. These values are why Nebraska is what America is supposed to be. Everywhere I go, I’m reminded of that. It’s in the small acts of kindness, the warm greetings at local stores, and the neighborly way we support each other. It’s the Nebraska way.

This Thanksgiving, as we gather with family and friends, let’s take a moment and reflect on the many blessings we enjoy. It’s easy to focus on the challenges we face. But when we look around, we see that we are truly blessed. We have so much to be grateful for. We live in a country built on freedom, opportunity, and hard work. We live in a state where people still care about one another and work together to build a brighter future.

As your Senator, I’m grateful for your trust and the continued opportunity to serve you. I’ll continue working every day to ensure that the values we hold dear are protected. Working together, we can ensure that Nebraska remains a place where future generations can live, work, and thrive.
