Serious escalations in Ukraine this week risk pushing us closer towards nuclear war. Ukraine’s use of US and British long-range missiles have been met with Russia’s retaliation of a hypersonic ballistic missile. This week Russia also lowered its threshold for nuclear use, to include conventional strikes by non-nuclear states that have the backing of nuclear powers.
Speaking to Jeremy Vine on Thursday, CND General Secretary Sophie Bolt, urged leaders to listen to the Ukrainian people, who want an end to the conflict through peace talks. You can watch the full debate here.

On Tuesday, as the Ukraine-NATO council meets, we’ll be handing in a letter to the Prime Minister calling for the British government to step back from the precipice and pull its missiles out of Ukraine.
We’re also calling an Emergency Day of Action on Saturday 7 December. Look out for campaigning materials coming Tuesday, to help you organise local protests, public meetings, street stalls and leafletting. Developments in Ukraine are moving incredibly fast and we are working hard to build opposition to these growing nuclear threats - both within Parliament and the wider population.
Now more than ever, CND needs funding to support our crucial work. Please consider donating to our Winter Appeal here. With your support, we will be able to continue responding rapidly to these developments and holding the British government accountable for its contribution to this crisis.

Join the next national march for Palestine - 30 November
The horror of the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the widening conflict across the Middle East is also increasing nuclear tensions. On Monday, Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that nuclear-armed Israel targeted Iran's nuclear programme during its attack on the country last month.
The admission comes the same week as the UN's fifth session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free, which concludes today. Creating a nuclear weapons free Middle East is essential to long-term security in the region.
The British government has stood by Israel's continued violations of international law, supplying it with F35a aircraft parts - which have been used to kill civilians in Gaza and Lebanon. The legality of this is being challenged in court and could have serious ramifications for the government once a ruling is made.
Meanwhile, the Home Secretary has refused to confirm that Britain would arrest Netanyahu or his former defence minister, Yoav Gallant, if they visited the country. This follows Thursday's issuing of arrest warrants for war crimes by the International Criminal Court.

CND is calling on supporters to join us in London on Saturday 30 November for the next national march for Palestine. We will be calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza and for Britain, once and for all, to completely end its arms trade with Israel. Only then can the Israeli war machine ground to a halt and the prospect of a lasting ceasefire be realised.
- Saturday, 30 November
- Assemble 12 noon, Park Lane, London.
- More details, including accessible route will be updated here.
You can also take action for Palestine in your workplace on 28 November, which now has the support of the TUC! More details here.
