Rep. Monica De La Cruz (TX-15), who represents a border district in South Texas, spoke about Republicans' plans to address the Biden administration's failures on illegal immigration.

Now that Republicans will hold the House, Senate, and White House, she said that the GOP will aim to pass legislation to H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, which "would have expanded the type of crimes that make someone ineligible for asylum, limited the eligibility to those who arrive at ports of entry, mandated a system similar to the E-Verify employment eligibility verification system, and created additional penalties for visa overstay."

In order to overcome a Senate filibuster and be signed into law, Republicans will need to convince seven Senate Democrats to support the legislation.

After the Pentagon failed to complete its seventh consecutive audit, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) criticized the Department of Defense for wasting taxpayer-funded resources.

Ernst cited particularly egregious expenditures in the massive $824 billion budget and committed to being part of a Republican-led effort to bring more accountability to the department.

Multiple news outlets reported that outgoing Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05) is under consideration to be the next head of the U.S. Department of Labor. 

In a statement to Fox News, Chavez-DeRemer said she would "be honored to have the opportunity to support President Trump’s mission to empower and grow our nation’s workforce. Hardworking Americans finally have a lifeline with the president, and I’d work tirelessly to support his impressive efforts to remake the Republican Party into the Party of the American worker."
