Dear Friends,
Happy Friday! It’s been a productive week in Washington as we prepare for the next Congress. My Democratic colleagues and I remain committed to putting people over politics, and we will not be distracted by the drama and dysfunction brought by President-elect Trump and his House Republican loyalists.
To usher in the new year, I am looking for Spring interns in my DC office or any of my three District Offices. Interested applicants can apply here.
Supporting Food is Medicine Programs
Every year, Americans spend $1.1 trillion to treat diet-related diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart conditions, cancers, and more. These diseases are exacerbated by food deserts, leading millions of Americans to rely on cheaper, but less nutritious, foods.
I introduced a new bill that would support Food is Medicine programs nationwide to prioritize fresh, nutritious foods while lowering healthcare costs. Everyone deserves to have access to nourishing foods, regardless of where they live.
Recognizing Rural Health Day
On Rural Health Day, I am dedicated to providing those who live in rural communities with access to high-quality healthcare. As a health equity advocate in Congress, I commit myself to supplying additional digital tools across my district and our nation to supplement rural hospital's in-person care.
To learn more about my commitment to assisting those in rural communities, watch me speak on the House Floor in recognition of Rural Health Month here.
RSVP - Obama Foundation Democracy Forum
The third annual Obama Foundation Democracy Forum is on Thursday, December 5. At this crucial time for global democracy, this year's Forum will emphasize the importance of pluralism, celebrate the diversity of our identities and communities, and highlight the need to unite in the pursuit of the common good.
RSVP to join the livestream for an exciting day of conversations with leaders, experts, and changemakers here.
If you would like to share your thoughts with me, feel free to visit my website. You can also keep in touch through Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).
Sincerely,
Robin L. Kelly Member of Congress
