Now that the 2024 General Election has concluded, it is time for Democrats of Indian River to focus on our mandated restructuring process, including DEC elections, that will occur in December. This will be followed by a strategy session in January. If you have interest in joining our team, please reach out to our Chairman, William Evans at [email protected].
Please save the date for our upcoming DEC reorganization meeting and election which will take place at the Indian River County Main Library Saturday, December 14, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
We also invite volunteers to use THIS LINK to share suggestions. We want to hear from you!
Please note that last week's newsletter incorrectly stated that our texting campaign had reached out to 275,000 voters. The newsletter should have stated that our texting team made approximately 225,000 text attempts to Indian River County voters.
As Thanksgiving approaches, we want to extend our warmest wishes to each and every one of you. We hope this holiday brings gratitude and cherished moments with friends, families and loved ones.
Our office will be CLOSED for Thanksgiving Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We will also be pausing our regular newsletter updates in order to take time to embrace the holiday festivities.
Thank you all for your continued passion for progress and your commitment to our shared values. We look forward to reconnecting after the Thanksgiving break.
As a final note, I will be stepping back from my role as Director of Communications. I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me for the last 18 months. It has been an incredible honor to serve this community and work alongside so many passionate individuals dedicated to building a better future for all. With gratitude - Angela Weber
Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Walter Janke, a remarkable 93-year-old retired cardiovascular
surgeon and immigrant from Peru, who has taken his passion for change
to the streets!
This year, Walter has been a beacon of relentless dedication,
campaigning tirelessly for his chosen presidential candidate. Rain or
shine, he can be found waving signs on street corners, knocking on
doors every Saturday to hear the concerns of his neighbors, and even
hammering signposts into the ground in the sweltering heat. His
commitment is as unwavering as his belief in a better future for all.
Walter's journey is not just about politics; it's about transformation
and resilience. After shifting from a lifelong Republican to a
passionate Democrat, he faced significant challenges, including the
loss of his social network and strained family relationships. Yet, his
drive to combat what he sees as an "existential threat" to the country
fuels his efforts.
As his wife Lalita puts it, Walter's dedication to giving people a
better life is what inspired his career in medicine and continues to
guide him today. His actions have not only ignited a spark within the
local Democratic party but have also inspired others to step up and
make a difference.
Walter's story reminds us that activism knows no age limit, and that
change can come from the most unexpected places. Let's celebrate his
unwavering spirit and the countless others like him who are making
their voices heard!
