🕊️ On 19th-20th October, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) had the pleasure of attending the Global Peace and Unity (GPU) Festival 2024.

After a 10-year hiatus, the GPU brought together 50,000 people from across the country to celebrate unity and collaboration within the Muslim community.

📢 Islamophobia Awareness Month comes at a challenging time for British Muslims, both nationally and globally.

We continue to witness a rise in extreme far-right views, legitimised by key political figures and mainstream media outlets.

Campaigns of misinformation, anti-immigrant, and Islamophobic rhetoric, often driven by leaders from the previous government, as well as the Tommy Robinson and Nigel Farage.

Such rhetoric helped incite the terrifying violent riots and attempted arson attacks on mosques we saw on our streets

On Saturday, October 19, the Muslim Women’s Council (MWC) hosted their ‘Daughters of Eve’ in Bradford.

The conference celebrated the resilience, achievements, and leadership of Muslim women across the UK.

The MCB Secretary-General had the honour of participating in the opening of a new community library and social space for the North London Muslim Community Centre (NLMCC).

The NLMCC has a 28-year legacy of serving the community by consistently supporting hundreds of families through a range of social welfare programmes including childcare, healthcare, education, employment assistance, poverty relief and youth engagement.

The MCB congratulate our affiliates, the Bristol Muslim Strategic Leadership Group, on their 4th annual conference this year on the topic:’Why is Hate so Popular? The power of social media’.

The conference brought together a range of insightful speakers reflecting on the violence and riots over the summer which was said to be instigated on social media.

The MCB Assistant Secretary General recently met with the trustees and CEO of Deaf Muslim UK, the oldest charity supporting Deaf Muslims in the UK, led entirely by Deaf individuals.

The meeting, facilitated by a BSL interpreter, provided valuable insights. They discussed the specific challenges facing Deaf Muslims, the available support, and explored ways the MCB and Deaf Muslim UK can collaborate effectively in the future.

We are now looking into a potential joint project to address these needs and enhance support for the Deaf Muslim community in this country.
The Assistant Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) recently participated in a roundtable discussion at the House of Lords, co-hosted by the National Academy for Social Prescribing, the Bishop of London, and the Good Faith Partnership.

The event brought together leaders from various faiths, key stakeholders in social prescribing, and NHS representatives to encourage cross-sector collaboration.

We presented a case study highlighting how a mosque implements social prescribing initiatives and the positive impact on the local community. This showcased the critical role faith-based organisations play in promoting health and wellbeing through social prescribing.

The roundtable provided an excellent opportunity for sharing insights and strengthening partnerships between faith groups and healthcare providers, paving the way for meaningful collaboration in the future.

The MCB Secretary-General and Assistant Secretary-General attended and participated in a panel discussion organised by the National Association of Muslim Police (NAMP) in association with the West Yorkshire Police.

The event was part of Islamophobia Awareness Month on tackling Islamophobia and discussing ways to improve engagement and understanding in policing.
The Warm Welcome Campaign is a nationwide initiative designed to support those struggling to heat their homes amidst the rising cost of living.

Thousands of places of worship and community centres across the UK are opening their doors to provide warm, safe spaces for those in need this winter.

The campaign aims to transform poverty and isolation into warmth and community connection, leveraging the power of local spaces created by and for the community.
