The whole basis through which African Parks has come to control so much Indigenous land is going unchallenged.

Dear Jack,

We’ve about to publish a new report into one of the most troubling cases we’re working on, and I wanted you to know about it right away.

The report exposes how the global demand for electric vehicles is driving the destruction of uncontacted people in Indonesia. The lands – and lives – of around 500 uncontacted Indigenous Hongana Manyawa people are being ripped up in a mining frenzy to produce nickel for electric car batteries.

Take action now

It’s obscene that a nickel rush to fuel supposedly sustainable consumption is on the verge of wiping out the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa, who truly live sustainably.

What’s more, our research has shown that French mining company Eramet, which operates the largest mine on uncontacted Hongana Manyawa territory, has known of the severe risks to the 500 uncontacted Indigenous people for more than 10 years.

Despite this, the company continues to deny that they exist where it’s mining – and it’s been mining on their territory since 2019.

The uncontacted Hongana Manyawa are now seeing their land, and everything they need to survive, destroyed by corporations rushing to produce supposedly eco-friendly cars for people living thousands of miles away.

I'll support the Hongana Manyawa

The Hongana Manyawa desperately need your support if they’re to survive. We need as many people as possible to demand that electric vehicle companies don’t buy nickel taken from the Hongana Manyawa’s lands. One simple email is all it takes.

Thank you for supporting this urgent campaign.

Act now

Best wishes,

Caroline Pearce
