At AFSP, our mission is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

This weekend, AFSP observes two very special days –– Día de Esperanza (Day of Hope), and International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, also known as Survivor Day. At these annual events, those who have been affected by suicide loss are able to find strength and hope through a community of people who understand. It's not too late to register for an in-person Survivor Day event near you, or for one of our two virtual events below. We hope to have you there.
International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day (Survivor Day):
International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, also known as Survivor Day, takes place this year on Saturday, November 23.
In addition to in-person events, AFSP hosts Survivor Day Live, a virtual experience bringing communities together from across the world through Facebook and YouTube Live. This year's virtual event will be moderated by Paul Augustyniak, a Tennessee Chapter board chair and Loss & Healing Council member. Paul will facilitate a panel discussion among three survivors of suicide loss, including Nebraska Chapter volunteer Donna Wolff, Tampa Bay Chapter volunteer Teresa Daniels, and Central Texas Chapter volunteer Jimmie Martin.
The conversation will explore each panelist's experiences, how they have navigated their loss, and what set them on a pathway toward healing. Attendees can also expect to learn what each panelist has discovered throughout the healing process, and what they would tell someone just beginning their own journey of processing a suicide loss.

Día de Esperanza (Day of Hope):
Día de Esperanza (Day of Hope) takes place this year on Friday, November 22, one day before Survivor Day, and offers support specifically for Hispanic and Latinx communities that have been affected by suicide loss.
This virtual event will be moderated by AFSP Vice President of Public Relations María de los Ángeles Corral, and will feature a panel discussion with Central Texas Chapter volunteer Laura Ramos and Nevada Chapter board member Martin Reyes. Both Laura and Martin are survivors of suicide loss, and they each have a powerful perspective on mental health and suicide prevention in Hispanic and Latinx culture.
The conversation, taking place in Spanish with Spanish closed captions, will consider how Hispanic and Latinx communities face specific challenges when it comes to addressing mental health, such as cultural stigma surrounding suicide. Importantly, the conversation will also consider strategies for overcoming those challenges by encouraging open and honest dialogue about mental health struggles, suicide, grief, and how to support survivors of suicide loss.
Día de Esperanza is a unique opportunity for those in Hispanic in Latinx communities who have been affected by suicide loss to find connection, understanding, and hope through shared cultural experience. We hope you'll join us.

Día de Esperanza (Day of Hope):
No matter who you are, you are not alone. We hope you join us this weekend for Survivor Day and Día de Esperanza.
