Hi John,
You have to celebrate wins when tax cuts happen… and then it’s right back to work.
The federal government is taking the GST off a bunch of stuff for two months, from diapers and car seats to rotisserie chickens and restaurant meals.
That will save taxpayers about $1.6 billion.
Let’s be honest: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has raised the carbon tax and all kinds of other taxes so we’re not going to throw him a parade.
And let’s be honest about something else: you know the only reason Trudeau is cutting taxes is because you and thousands of other Canadian Taxpayers Federation supporters forced him to.
It’s important to give credit where credit is due…
You and thousands of other taxpayers have demanded tax cuts so loudly that it’s even starting to dawn on the prime minister that people might want to keep more of their own money. So…
CONGRATULATIONS: YOU’RE SAVING TAXPAYERS $1.6 BILLION.
OK – the celebration’s over – time to get back to work.
You know there are a lot of taxes and tax hikes we need to scrap: carbon taxes, capital gains tax hikes, the alcohol escalator tax, payroll taxes… The list goes on. And the government needs to cut a lot of wasteful spending to make room for more tax relief. We’ll keep working on all of that.
But when you have momentum in an area, it’s good to keep it going.
So we need to know what you think on this simple one-question survey.
Do you want this temporary GST cut to be permanent? (Just click your answer).
- YES – Make this GST cut permanent
- No – Start charging the GST on these products again in mid-February
Thanks for taking a stand for taxpayers. A temporary GST holiday is a very small step toward cleaning up a very big mess. But you’re making a difference. And you can keep driving change when we all work together.
All the best,
Franco Terrazzano
