Rep. Fitzgerald Applauds Passage of Colonel Heg Post Office Bill in Senate
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate passed his bill by unanimous consent to rename the U.S. Post Office in Muskego in honor of Colonel Hans Christian Heg.
The bill, H.R. 7199, designates the facility of the United States Postal Service located at S74w16860 Janesville Road, in Muskego, Wisconsin, as the “Colonel Hans Christian Heg Post Office.” Colonel Hans Christian Heg was a staunch abolitionist who was the highest-ranking Union casualty from Wisconsin in the Civil War.
“I am incredibly happy to see the Senate pass my bill to rename the U.S. Post Office in Muskego in honor of Colonel Hans Christian Heg,” said Rep. Fitzgerald. “I’ve talked at length since introducing this bill last year about the incredible legacy that Colonel Heg left behind. By renaming this post office after Colonel Heg, we are cementing this war hero and abolitionist’s legacy in Wisconsin. Colonel Heg has a history worth honoring and remembering, and this bill does exactly that. Next stop is the White House!”
