As we look back on 2024, I want to express our profound gratitude for your commitment to improving the financial lives of millions of Americans.

The Center for Responsible Lending believes in a just society with a fair financial system and economic opportunities that allow everyone to attain their dreams. This past year, with the support of funders and partners like you, CRL was able to:

• Work toward an equitable green lending marketplace with the release of our paper, “The Shady Side of Solar System Financing.”
• Protect consumers with our research revealing the high, hidden costs of Earned Wage Advance (EWA) and Buy Now Pay Later financing apps.
• Help persuade the Veterans Administration to provide new mortgage servicing alternatives, allowing tens of thousands of Servicemembers and Veterans to stay in their homes.
• Gain ground in reducing excessive overdraft charges and junk fees with billions of dollars in proposed Administration reductions for 23 million households each year.
• Team up with policymakers and advocates to defeat an industry-sponsored bill in Maryland, which would have expanded EWA lending and reduced consumer protections.

While we have much to celebrate, we must prepare for the inevitable challenges that will arise against established protections from abusive financial practices for working Americans.

With the new year approaching, our staff, policy advocates, researchers and legal experts need your help to continue dismantling the deeply entrenched barriers and predatory lending practices that keep individuals and families from building wealth.

Here’s how your contribution will make an impact:

• $500 funds research on economic injustice, providing lawmakers with the data they need to stop predatory lending practices.
• $100 provides support in creating stronger consumer protections that will help individuals and families avoid debt traps and attain homeownership.
• $50 allows us to reach hundreds of community members with critical resources and information about how they can protect their financial future.
