Check out these resources to prepare for muzzleloader season:
If you haven't filled your deer tag(s) yet, don't give up!
Deer hunting can be a test of patience, but you cannot harvest a deer if you don't try or put the time in. Remember to control your scent, it is very hard to fool a deer's nose, and enjoy the beauty of being in Maine's woods.
The firearms season ends November 30th, and muzzleloader season will begin December 2nd. To participate, you need to purchase a muzzleloader permit in addition to your big game hunting license.
Take on a fun new challenge by learning how to hunt deer with a muzzleloader! There is plenty of time to learn how to use a muzzleloader for deer before the muzzleloader season begins in December, starting with this Introduction to Muzzleloaders Workshop in Wilton, Maine. Experienced MDIFW staff will discuss choosing the right muzzleloader for hunting, muzzleloader choices, gun features, safe storage, and shooting accuracy. This workshop will combine discussion with hands-on practice to familiarize participants with flintlocks, percussion guns and in-lines, and associated equipment that is used to hunt with a muzzleloader.
*All materials for this workshop are provided.
