Friends,
Senator Tina Smith is trying to move a land transfer for the Leech Lake Reservation.
Currently she is pushing to amend the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation Restoration Act passed by Congress in 2020. The move identifies an additional 4,000 acres of land to be given back to the tribe which is located in the Chippewa National Forest.
Similar to other land transfer bills, Senator Smith’s amended language did not include stakeholders to this conversation, which was a failure of the National Forest Service to the initial bill that gave over 11,000 acres of land to the tribe back in 2020.
She is claiming there is no objection. If people are concerned they should contact the Senator's office immediately.
