On April 18 and 19, a gunman with an assault weapon senselessly murdered 22 people in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada – making it the deadliest rampage in Canadian history. Twelve days after this horrific mass shooting, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took immediate action and announced a ban on military-style assault weapons.

We honor the victims of the Nova Scotia massacre. And we salute Prime Minister Trudeau’s swift leadership to save lives. In the United States, we had 418 mass shootings in 2019 alone. Yet how many gun reform bills has Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell passed? None. Zero.

Imagine how many lives we could save if the NRA didn’t pay off Mitch McConnell to let gun safety bills die in his “legislative graveyard.” Imagine if the leaders of our country took courageous action in the face of tragedy. Imagine the countless people who wouldn’t be gun violence survivors. Imagine the children and loved ones who would still be here today.
