John,
I spent the months after my sweet little Daniel was murdered going to as many Senate offices as I could, showing them photos of my gap-toothed little boy and urging them to pass background check legislation.
That was six years ago, and the vote failed. That defeat crushed me, but I refused to listen to those who said that if gun safety legislation couldn't pass after Sandy Hook, then it never could.
Now, the House has already passed a lifesaving background checks bill – but the Senate has refused to vote on it for more than five months. And after 31 people were murdered in El Paso and Dayton last week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell still hasn't called senators back from their vacation to pass this critical legislation that 97% of Americans support.
It's absolutely disgraceful.
That's why we're funding an all-out push to pressure Senate Majority Leader McConnell to call an emergency session to vote on universal background checks. But we're $25,630 short of the resources we need, and we only have until midnight to close the gap.
So, in the critical final hours before our deadline, I have to ask: Will you please donate now to help us ramp up our efforts to pass this lifesaving bill and prevent future tragedies?
Please rush $10, or as much as you can, to Sandy Hook Promise right now. Every dollar will help us pressure the Senate to come back from vacation and finally pass universal background checks to prevent gun violence.

My sweet little Daniel was murdered in his classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary more than six years ago. For many people, that might feel like the distant past. But for me, it often feels like just yesterday.
I won't ever heal or move on from the agony of Daniel's death. But I know that if you join us and we reach this goal in time, we can make a real difference to protect lives. Thank you so much for your support today.
Mark Barden (Daniel's father)
