*There’s been a big boost to local tourism*

I'm proud to say that tourism in Nottingham has grown by 15%. The 2023 data shows tourism is worth £2.36 billion, and that Nottingham and Nottinghamshire had 34.33 million visitors, up by 4.12%. Tourism also creates many jobs, with 22,437 full-time positions, a 9.33% growth.

Our city is a top destination in the East Midlands with amazing retail, entertainment, cultural and heritage attractions. Hosting fantastic yearly events like our world-famous Goose Fair, our spectacular Winter Wonderland that kicks off Christmas in Nottingham every year and boasting unique destinations across the city like Wollaton Hall, Nottingham Castle, Newstead Abbey and the newly opened Green Heart.

More tourists visiting Nottingham is great news for local businesses who work hard to give visitors a unique experience, growing the city and regional economy and providing jobs for local people. We will continue to work with our partners and stakeholders to provide the best conditions to build on this success to give visitors the best experience and make sure Nottingham remains the must-visit destination in the East Midlands.

Winter Wonderland is now open!

Winter Wonderland, the city’s premier Christmas attraction is now open at Old Market Square. There’s lots for festive fun-seekers to enjoy at this years event, which runs until New Year’s Eve.

You can get the best city views on the Observation Wheel and Sky Skate Ice Path, indulge in delicious food and drink at the Sur La Piste and Altitude chalet bars, chill out in the Ice Bar, and start your Christmas shopping at the market stalls.

Entry is free but some activities are ticketed. I am delighted to say we have worked with Mellors to offer Nottingham City residents a 10% discount on super off-peak and off-peak ice-skating bookings.

Super off-peak and off-peak reduced price skating tickets are available on Mondays to Thursdays outside of the school holidays. You can find the different timings available on the link below.

Santa’s Gingerbread Christmas Trail at Wollaton Hall

Discover Santa or his helpers at the festive themed ‘Gingerbread Christmas’ with a self-led walk at Wollaton Hall.

It is decorated in the theme of a ‘Gingerbread Christmas’ with our team of Santa’s helpers throughout the route to meet you.

You & your family will have the opportunity to see Santa or his friends in Santa’s Workshop. Children will receive a gift as part of their visit.

Christmas at Woodthorpe this weekend

Bring your family and friends to Woodthorpe Park Plant Shop for a magical, fun filled Christmas starting from this weekend. 

The Christmas Market is happening between the 23 November to the 15 December.

Entry to the market is free and dogs are welcome. There will be:


* Wreath Making Workshops
* Magical Father Christmas Experience
* Over 30 artisan craft stalls
* Homemade Cafe
* Children's activities
* Live performances

Plus, there will be a Twilight Christmas shopping event on Friday 6 December from 5pm to 8pm.

It’s free to visit and includes craft stalls, live entertained, wreath making workshops (additional cost) and A magical illuminated trail through the Tropical House and stories with Father Christmas (additional cost)

Christmas at Newstead Abbey

There will be craft stalls and our Christmas shopping on the weekends in the run up to Christmas.

Christmas at Newstead runs from this Saturday 23 November until Sunday 5 January 25.  (Christmas Day).

Want a green travel grant for YOUR business? Time is running out!

Did you know that there is a grant helping local businesses with green travel improvements like EV chargers, that could pay for 75% - 100% of the cost?

Our Workplace Travel Service team were happy to help Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust [ [link removed] ] with a grant to improve their shower and changing facilities and add a new secure bike shelter and bike ramp to enable staff who wanted to cycle into work, as well as Bridgeway Consulting [ [link removed] ], who benefitted from a grant to install EV chargers.

Could your organisation benefit too? As long as you are based in Nottingham city and interested in making green travel easier for your employees such as through adding EV chargers, pool e-bikes, bike shelters and changing facilities, you could qualify!

*The grants, funded from Government’s Local Transport Plan and Nottingham’s Workplace Parking Levy, are wrapping up soon so get your application in now.*

Improvements in Bilborough and Leen Valley are now complete!

Nottingham City Council has completed a £5.7m project to make a busy area in Bilborough and Leen Valley safer for pedestrians and cyclists. 

The council successfully bid for money from the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund to make improvements along Beechdale Road and Hollington Road. £590k was also contributed by Sustrans. 

Work started in July 2023 and the project included: 


* Creating more space for a cycle lane by removing the central reservation, allowing residents to turn left or right out of their drives where previously they could only turn one way  

* replacing existing cycle lanes with two new segregated routes on Beechdale Road and Hollington Road 

* improvements to junctions and pedestrian crossing facilities 

* resurfacing roads and pavements to give a safer smooth surface for road users and pedestrians

Have your say on local pharmacy services

We want to hear how you access and use pharmacy (chemist) services in Nottingham City. This will help us develop services in the future. Your views will help inform a document called the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA). This will look at health needs in the city, the pharmacy (chemist) services that are available, and how these may look in the future.

By pharmacy we mean the place you would use to get a prescription or buy medicines over the counter. You might also use a pharmacy to talk to a pharmacist for advice about an illness or medicines. We don’t mean the pharmacy at a hospital or the part of the pharmacy where you buy beauty or grooming products.

Please take a few minutes to answer some questions about your experiences and opinions. Your answers are confidential so please answer honestly. This will help us understand where pharmacies (chemists) are doing well and where things need to be better.* The questionnaire closes on 16 December 2024. *We will use your feedback to help develop our draft of the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment. This will then be available for public consultation in 2025.

Marking World Children’s Day

On World Children’s Day (20 November) this week children from schools across Nottingham came together to mark the day and to launch Child Friendly Nottingham’s children and young people’s survey. 

This is another important step on Nottingham’s ambition to be an accredited UNICEF Child Friendly City.

The event at the Council House was about fun and interactive activity and was themed around Your Voice Matters – Get It Heard. Children took part in website design, voting exercises, designing their own Nottingham children’s magazine, working with sports clubs and key Nottingham partners. 

The event highlighted the importance of children and young people getting opportunities to be heard and have their views and experiences taken seriously.

The Child Friendly City (CFN) programme builds on the rights of the child and work is being carried out across the partnership in areas children and young people prioritise.
