For Rabab, every trip to the bathroom to change her sanitary pad is a painful experience. Ever since she was displaced from their home in Lebanon to a shelter, she shares limited water with hundreds of people.
"Sometimes there's no water for a girl to wash and change. There's no basket in the bathroom — there's no basket for a girl to put her sanitary pad," she told Reuters.
Nearly 200,000 people like Rabab now live across 1,145 collective shelters, most of which are at capacity. The numbers are growing and as winter sets in, so are the needs.
With basic hygiene supplies like menstrual products slowly becoming out of reach, UNFPA is working tirelessly to make these supplies accessible for all who need them in the form of Dignity Kits.
We have already distributed 8,000 Dignity Kits since conflict erupted in Lebanon, but your support is urgently needed to reach more women and girls. Will you deliver Dignity Kits and lifesaving care to those who need it most around the world?
“I have two teenage daughters who are now sharing a bathroom with hundreds of other people,” Alma told UNFPA. “Risks of infection are very high.”
“We fled with literally nothing with us,” Alma said. “Any feminine-hygiene product is essential at this point.”
She and her pregnant daughter-in-law both received UNFPA Dignity Kits, thanks to the support of donors like you.
Dignity Kits cost only $15 to create, but the contents of each kit are priceless to its recipients.
So as the suffering in Lebanon continues, will you deliver the gift of dignity to women and girls? Make a gift to deliver Dignity Kits to those who need them around the world:
We condemn the violence in Lebanon, Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel, and echo the UN Secretary-General’s call for a sustained humanitarian ceasefire and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages by Hamas. The suffering must end and peace must prevail.
Thank you for not looking away from this worsening crisis.
