Dear Friend,
This Sunday, November 24, is the
Solemnity of Christ, King of the Universe. Some of you may have
attended a Traditional Latin Mass where the Feast of Christ the King
was celebrated on Sunday, October 27.
In the Diocese of Lake Charles,
Louisiana, our Shepherd, Cardinal Burke, was the celebrant and
homilist for a prelatial Low Mass at St. Francis de Sales Oratory, in
Sulphur, Louisiana. This invitation was extended to His Eminence by
his classmate in the seminary and friend of 53 years, Bishop Jon
Provost.
In the homily, Cardinal Burke said
that “the Kingship of Christ clearly extends to the individual human
heart, calling forth the obedience which frees each of us to become
all that God has created us to be.”
His Eminence called on everyone “to
renew our devotion to His royal heart, keeping before our eyes
throughout each day the image of Christ the King who reigns in our
hearts with His glorious, pierced heart.”
Then, a solemn Eucharistic
Procession through the streets followed, with Cardinal Burke carrying
Jesus in the Monstrance.
At the conclusion of the
procession, Cardinal Burke presided over Benediction:
Everyone was invited to a reception
where Cardinal Burke briefly met individually with families, gave
special blessings, took photos and signed books and prayer cards, for
well over two hours. Families from Dallas, Houston, Lafayette, and
locally in Southwest Louisiana came to be a part of this special
liturgical event that they will never forget.
During the reception, His Eminence
offered words of encouragement:
“Remember what happened in your
church today, and don’t get discouraged. Our Lord is our King, and He
is leading us forward to bring us to victory over all of the trials
that we face.”
I wish to thank the Diocese of Lake Charles for allowing Catholic
Action for Faith and Family to share these photos.
In conclusion, I invite you to stay
tuned for two livestreamed Holy Masses that Cardinal
Burke will offer. First, for
Operation Storm Heaven on December 1, the First Sunday of Advent and
then on December 12, the Solemnity of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where His
Eminence will lead us in the worldwide Consecration to Our Lady of
Guadalupe, at the conclusion of the Nine-Month Novena.
May Jesus, Whose Kingdom is not of
this world and Whose Sacred Heart burns with Love for all mankind,
reign in our hearts.
Yours in the Sacred Heart of Jesus
and the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
Thomas McKenna
