The Abraham Global Peace Initiative (AGPI) (and ZOA) expresses its strongest condemnation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for issuing arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. This reckless and politically motivated decision underscores the ICC's troubling trend of weaponization against Israel, prepared by the Palestinian Authority and its allies since 2015.
The ICC, an institution founded after the Holocaust to bring justice to victims of atrocities, has tragically abandoned its principles. Together with the United Nations and affiliated agencies such as UNRWA, the ICC has perpetuated a false narrative accusing Israel of intentionally committing war crimes. These actions mirror historical antisemitic propaganda, further emboldening terrorist organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis — all backed by Iran, which funds and supports these proxies.
The October 7, 2023, massacre carried out by Hamas, a genocidal terrorist group, left over 1,200 Israelis murdered and thousands injured. According to the UN Charter, Article 51, every nation has the inherent right to self-defense against such existential threats. Israel’s actions are not only justified but necessary to protect its citizens and preserve international order. Yet, the ICC's arrest warrants dangerously distort international justice by empowering extremists, exacerbating global antisemitism, and undermining peace efforts during a time of heightened tensions.
"This targeted scrutiny against Israel, particularly in its moment of peril, disregards the security realities facing the Jewish state while legitimizing terrorism,” “It reflects a troubling alignment with extremist agendas, demonstrating an alarming bias that erodes the ICC’s credibility and historic relevance."
AGPI fully endorses the United States' sharp critique of the ICC's conduct and supports measures to hold the organization accountable, including sanctions and travel restrictions.
AGPI further calls on the international community to demand accountability from the ICC, the United Nations, and their affiliates. While conflicts rage across the globe, their selective focus on Israel distracts from the atrocities committed by terror groups that openly violate international law. This bias emboldens groups that exploit civilian populations as human shields, exacerbating humanitarian crises while targeting Israel.
"Justice must apply universally, not selectively," "Israel is struggling to defend itself against a coalition of terror organizations, and these unjust rulings only fuel further destabilization."
