Governor DeWine Appoints Two to Fill Judicial Vacancies

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today announced two appointments to fill judicial vacancies. He appointed John M. Halliday to serve as a judge on the Washington County Court of Common Pleas, General and Domestic Relations Division, and Patrick T. Murphy to serve as a judge on the Crawford County Court of Common Pleas, Probate and Juvenile Division.

Halliday, of Marietta, will assume office on June 15, 2020 and must run for election on November 3, 2020, for the remainder of the term ending December 31, 2024. Halliday is replacing Judge John Triplett who retired from the Washington County Court of Common Pleas on February 28, 2020.

Halliday received his bachelors degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and his law degree from the Ohio Northern University, Petit School of Law. He currently is in private practice. Halliday has served as an acting judge in the Marietta Municipal Court. Halliday is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, past president of the Washington County Bar Association, and past president and current board member of the Kiwanis Club of Marietta.

Murphy, of Tiro, will assume office on June 8, 2020 and must run for election on November 3, 2020 to retain the seat for the term starting February 9, 2021. Murphy is replacing Judge Steven Eckstein who passed away on March 30, 2020.

Murphy received his bachelors degree from The Ohio State University and his law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law. He currently is in private practice. Murphy is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Crawford County Bar Association, and the Knights of Columbus.
