Because of you, we’ve been able to act as the watchdog for watchdogs, protecting journalists and their right to speak truth to power. In 2024, we:

• Marked our 2,000th incident in the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, spanning 11 categories of press freedom violations. In the data, we saw an alarming rise in assaults, arrests, and harassment aimed at silencing the press.

• Ushered the PRESS Act’s passage through the House, and continue to fight for its passage in the Senate to ensure that journalists across the country are never forced to reveal their confidential sources. A bipartisan bill, the PRESS Act is vital to protecting the integrity of journalism. With your help, we continue to mobilize all of our resources to see it passed. 

• Amplified our transparency and government accountability work by appointing Lauren Harper as the first Daniel Ellsberg Chair on Government Secrecy.
