This year, Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) has continued to gain traction across the country, with significant victories in places like Washington, D.C., Oak Park, Illinois, and other local jurisdictions. Despite some setbacks on state ballot measures, we fought back against the anti-RCV effort and preserved RCV in Bloomington, Minnesota , and late yesterday, the final ballots came in in Alaska, where voters also said “no” to going back to the old system! We are excited that victories elsewhere will ensure voters in these places can experience the benefits of more inclusive and representative elections. And across the nation, RCV was successfully used in local elections, providing communities with a stronger voice and leaders who better reflect their values.
The momentum is undeniable, and the work ahead is critical. New local RCV initiatives are already being prepared for 2025, and in Minnesota, voters in five cities will once again benefit from RCV in their elections next year. Our mission remains clear: to protect and advance RCV at the legislature and local levels, ensuring its promise of a healthier democracy continues to grow.
