John,
More than 42,000 Kiwis descended on Parliament as part of the historic hīkoi in opposition of the Treaty Principles Bill.
It was a powerful display of unity, with Kiwis from all walks of life standing together to send a clear message to the Government: they will not divide us, and we will honour Te Tiriti.
Yet Prime Minister Christopher Luxon was nowhere to be seen. He failed at the negotiating table, failed as a leader and has failed to kill the Bill.
I sent Christopher Luxon an open letter <[link removed]>, supported by 15,600 of you, asking him to kill the Treaty Principles Bill. He chose not to listen. Instead, he put his political aspirations ahead of the country by allowing the Bill to pass first reading.
This means the Select Committee is accepting submissions on the Bill <[link removed]>. Share why you oppose this divisive legislation. More information can be found here. <[link removed]>
I would like to extend a huge thank you to all the organisers, volunteers, and everyone who showed up, walked in the hīkoi or voiced their support. It was an historic moment for New Zealand, and we were all part of it.
Ngā mihi,
Chris
P.S. It’s not too late to add your name to our open letter and urge the Prime Minister to stop dividing New Zealand. <[link removed]> If another 15,000 Kiwis sign our open letter, we will once again deliver it Christopher Luxon – in person this time, so he has to respond.
