It’s been a few weeks since Election night, and to be honest, it’s just now setting in what the next four years look like. I wanted to send you some thoughts, so apologies ahead of time for the longer email.

We have a lot of work to do to get ready to defend our freedoms. We also have a lot of work to do to prove to voters the Democratic Party deserves their vote.

This year my district swung 14 points towards Donald Trump. That means tens of thousands of people in my community voted for Joe Biden in 2020 and voted for Trump in 2024. In fact, Donald Trump won my district for the first time ever.

That means our campaign has a unique view into who these voters are and what they care about. It also means we have a tough battle ahead to hold this seat blue.

One of the biggest stories of this election was that Latino voters shifted away from Democrats. You heard me previewing this shift all last year, and it’s why we invested so early in our Latino organizing program. (Thank you for your early support!) It is a core reason we were able to win this district even as Trump won too.

I believe Democrats need to learn from our approach: reaching out early, meeting voters where they are, and then actually listening to their concerns. It’s also important that outreach is done in-language.

We also learned it’s not enough to push back against Trump; we have to share a positive vision of what Democrats stand for. I often say I’m not anti-Trump, I’m pro-healthcare.

I truly believe Democrats have the best policies for our families, but our message gets drowned out. The work to rebuild our coalition and remind voters where we stand starts now — we can’t wait until 2026.

So I’m asking you to join me in the fight to save the Democratic Party. We’re going to have a very tough race in the future, but I know we can come back stronger and more determined to win in 2026 and beyond.
