The first critical election of the second Trump term is just 132 days from now: Wisconsin’s state Supreme Court race.
This week, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin endorsed Judge Susan Crawford, the one pro-freedom, pro-democracy candidate in the race. We’re in the fight. Will you chip in $24 to help us win it?
With Wisconsin still at the white-hot center of American politics, our state Supreme Court remains one of the most crucial judicial bodies in America. Years of relentless, intensive communication and organizing by Democrats and allies culminated in the victory of 2023, winning a pro-freedom majority and ending far-right control of the court. The victory was a sea change that has changed life for the better across our state.
But that progress—and much more—is now on the line again. On April 1, 2025, the majority is once again at stake.
One of the four pro-democracy Justices on our state Supreme Court, Ann Walsh Bradley, will be retiring after three decades of distinguished service. The current majority ended the partisan gerrymander, restored voting rights, reined in abuses of power by Robin Vos’s state legislature, and is now considering a landmark case about access to abortion.
Whoever wins this spring’s election will cast the deciding vote in 4-3 cases going forward. And we already know exactly how the far-right candidate in this race, extremist Brad Schimel, would rule.
Look at Schimel’s track record as Attorney General under Scott Walker: he relentlessly attacked reproductive freedom, he helped drive a lawsuit to kill the Affordable Care Act, and he went to bat to protect the GOP’s obscene gerrymandered maps.
It’s a safe bet that a Schimel-led MAGA majority would work to take up these issues again, reverse recent decisions, and drive the court to the GOP fringe. Schimel would ensure that Wisconsin courts were a rubber stamp for whatever horrors Trump and his minions might be planning for Wisconsin. And he would seek to weaponize the court system to undermine Wisconsin voters, democracy, and the rule of law.
The other candidate for Justice is a Judge whose track record demonstrates her belief in the rule of law, our Constitution, and bedrock principles of freedom, democracy, and justice. Judge Susan Crawford launched her campaign in June. Now, it’s up to all of us to ensure that every Wisconsin voter knows who she is and why she’s the best choice.
WisDems will be all in for Judge Crawford. We’re continuing full steam ahead with statewide, year-round organizing. We’ll be helping spread her message on every platform and every community. For all of us in Wisconsin, the impact on our lives is self-evident. But the rest of the country should tune in here as well.
This race will be the first test of the GOP’s authoritarian triumphalism—their jeering assumption that they can get away with anything and nobody can stop them.
If we can defeat Schimel now, we’ll show the GOP and ourselves that we haven’t lost the will to fight. That we still believe in the power of our ideals. And that we can win key elections.

Expect the most underhanded and shameless attacks to come flooding in from those who think freedom should be for the few. Don’t let it faze you. Prepare to work, to fight—and to win.
