G’day John,
In Question Time on Tuesday, I asked the government whether they had advertised the Independent Review into Comcare. Surprise, surprise… they haven’t. So, here I am, letting you know that there is an Independent Review into Comcare.
Comcare is the national work health and safety and workers’ compensation authority. In addition to administering WHS and workers’ compensation for federal departments and agencies, the scheme covers almost 40 large businesses. I’ve linked a list of current and former businesses covered by the scheme.
Right now, more than 470,000 Australian workers fall under the Comcare scheme. Comcare was set up in 1988, and it's been a case of set and forget. But, finally, there's an Independent Review into Comcare.
There are so many bad stories about Comcare, and it's important that if you have experience with it, you take the opportunity to contribute to the review.
Through the consultation, they’re seeking responses from:
Injured workers or family members of injured workers who have lived experience of the Comcare scheme.
Other participants directly involved in the workers’ compensation scheme include employers of injured workers, claims managers, rehabilitation providers, and health care providers.
Peak representative bodies and organisations.
Legal representatives, insurers, actuaries and academics with experience in workers’ compensation
Submissions close on the 2nd of December
