MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public input on the draft Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP).
The SCORP describes the supply and demand for outdoor recreation in Wisconsin. The draft Wisconsin SCORP includes an analysis of the motivations for recreating and the barriers Wisconsin residents may experience preventing them from participating in outdoor recreation.
States are required to complete SCORPs every five years to be eligible for participation in the Land and Water Conservation Fund State Assistance Program.
The Land and Water Conservation Fund was enacted by Congress in 1965 “to strength the health and vitality of the United States” through the acquisition and development of outdoor recreation resources and facilities. States are allocated funds as matching (50%) grants for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation sites and facilities.
The public is encouraged to submit comments using the online public input form on the DNR’s Wisconsin Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan webpage. Comments may also be sent via U.S. mail, phone or email. Submit comments by Dec. 15, 2024 to:
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources C/O John Pohlman, DNR Property Planner 101 S. Webster St. PO Box 7921 Madison, WI 53707 [email protected] or 608-264-6263 Access the online public input form.
Following the close of the public comment period, the department will summarize the input received and adjust the report as necessary before submitting the final report to the governor for his consideration.
