Dear John,
For centuries, movements for Black freedom have been met with fear, repression, and violence. The U.S. government has consistently labeled our fight for liberation as “terrorism.” Today, the House of Representatives is voting on H.R. 9495, a dangerous bill that could give the government the power to shut down nonprofits they claim are doing “terrorist” work. But we know how this power will be used: to silence organizations like ours that challenge systemic racism and inequality.
History shows us the truth:
- Assata Shakur was forced into exile for resisting oppression, and branded a “terrorist” for her activism.
- The Black Panther Party was infiltrated, dismantled, and its leaders killed under the guise of “national security.”
- Groups advocating for Native sovereignty, Puerto Rican independence, and even environmental justice have all faced the same accusation: terrorism.
H.R. 9495 threatens to extend this pattern into law, targeting nonprofits and grassroots organizations that fight for freedom, equality, and survival.
If passed, this bill would weaponize the label of “terrorism” to dismantle Black-led movements and silence communities that dare to speak truth to power.
We cannot let this happen.
Here’s what you can do right now:
-
Send a letter to your Representative and tell them to vote NO on H.R. 9495. Click here to take action.
- Share this message with your networks—this fight depends on all of us.
- Stand with us to protect our movements and preserve the right to resist oppression.
Movements for Black liberation have always been treated as threats when they should be celebrated for their courage. We need you to act today to ensure our work—and the work of countless others—is not destroyed.
Send your Representative a letter and urge them to say NO to H.R. 9495.
Together, we can stop this bill and continue the fight for a better world.
In solidarity,
Black Lives Matter
Our grassroots movement is pushing for Black liberation every single day. We are striving to create a world where Black people do so much more than just survive. It’s time we thrive.
As an organization one of our biggest hurdles is consistency.
A recurring contribution of anything you can afford goes a long way as we plan for the months, years, and even decades ahead. This is the most effective way for small-dollar donors (like you) to power our Black liberation work.
Will you make a recurring contribution of $5 or more today so that we can keep building momentum for our movement?
