This year's victories in curbing corporate power
|
Dear Friend,
I’m sending greetings and solidarity from Lagos, Nigeria where I watched the U.S. presidential elections along with the rest of the world.
My friend, I’ve organized under a dictatorship and under a democracy, and I can imagine some of the feelings and fears you face right now.
And I want to say this: I see challenging corporate power as some of the most important work to do in this time. The forces backing authoritarian leaders around the world are the same forces consolidating corporate power. The struggle for democracy goes hand in hand with organizing to challenge corporate power.
Which is exactly what Corporate Accountability has done for decades. And this year, we've accomplished so much together.
I also know that long-term campaigning under difficult circumstances is only sustainable when we celebrate our victories. So I hope you take time to read about the hard-fought successes we achieved as a community in our latest annual report.
As you read, I hope you feel as proud as I am of the impact that we had together during this tumultuous year. With allies around the world, we advanced the movement to make Big Polluters pay in California. We stopped a water privatization scheme that would have impacted a million people in the city of Houston. And we supported organizers who are directly challenging corporations in their communities across the globe.
The victories in this year’s report assure me that we’re ready for the challenges ahead. I’m grateful to be in community with you. Thank you for all you make possible.

Corporate Accountability stops transnational corporations from devastating democracy, trampling human rights, and destroying our planet. We are building a world rooted in justice where corporations answer to people, not the other way around -- a world where every person has access to clean water, healthy food, a safe place to live, and the opportunity to reach their full human potential.
