VoteRiders worked with Deana to track down and pay for her birth certificate, and arranged transportation to and from the North Carolina DMV to get a “no fee ID.” With her new ID with her name and gender marker updated, she is able to apply for housing assistance and vote with confidence. |
On this Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor all the trans people who have lost their lives to anti-transgender violence. We know that an important element in the fight for safety and equal rights is ensuring that all trans voters can participate in our democracy without fear.
For Deana, voting is a way to be engaged, a way to take action, and a way to shape her environment. “If you have a beating heart, you should take part,” she says.
Election Day may be over, but VoteRiders is always working to ensure trans voters have the ID they need to live and vote with confidence. You can help by sharing our resources for all trans people who need accurate information and free help getting an ID.
With gratitude, Lauren Kunis
