Working Families Party

Republicans are back at it, John.

Today or tomorrow, the House will vote on H.R. 9495 — a bill that would hand Donald Trump sweeping new powers to target his political enemies. If passed, it would allow his Treasury Department to strip tax-exempt status from any nonprofit they decide to label as “terrorist-supporting,” without the need for evidence, oversight, or even an explanation.

In Trump’s hands, this power could be weaponized to stifle free speech, crush opposition, and pave the way for authoritarian abuse of power. Human rights organizations, civil liberties groups, universities, student associations — any Trump opponent could be targeted.

The worst part? When this bill was first introduced last week, 52 Democrats voted alongside Republicans to advance it. We can’t let that happen again.

Let’s flood Congress with calls before it’s too late. It’s time to remind our representatives that they work for the people.

You can say something like: “My name is John, a concerned constituent in Washington, and I’m urgently requesting that you vote NO on H.R. 9495 to prevent Donald Trump from gaining dangerous new powers."

This isn’t just another bad bill. It’s a loaded weapon, gift-wrapped for Trump to use against anyone who stands in his way or dares to hold him accountable.

Think about the consequences:

  • News outlets that report the truth.

  • Government watchdogs exposing corruption.

  • Human rights organizations calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

  • Reproductive health providers like Planned Parenthood providing abortions.

  • Environmental groups fighting climate change.

If H.R. 9495 passes, any of them could lose funding, face retaliatory investigations, or worse. With one stroke of a pen, he could make them all disappear.

We can stop this, but only if we act now and make our voices impossible to ignore, John.

Text CALL to 30403 to call your rep and tell them to vote NO on H.R. 9495, protect our democracy and stop Trump’s power grab.

In solidarity,

Working Families Party
