NY's gas planning proceeding needs our input!

** On Monday we're holding an online teach-in ([link removed]) about a new gas planning proceeding in New York State.
------------------------------------------------------------

New York State has finally ordered our utilities to develop plans to reduce fracked gas (methane) used for heating and cooking and to find alternatives to fossil fuels in order to comply with the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.

This gas planning proceeding (20-G-0131 ([link removed]) ) was initiated by the Public Service Commission in March 2020 and is a direct result of the grassroots organizing by countless individuals and organizations over the past several years.

For everyone who has maintained the drumbeat that (despite our ban on fracking) NY is still getting fracked, for everyone who has called the Governor, stood in the streets, signed a petition to stop the fracked gas infrastructure build-out, or fought for heat pumps not pipelines… This is a result of YOUR EFFORTS.

This is very exciting!

However, we have a lot of work to do to make sure this case goes our way. The gas industry will have a strong influence on this process, and the language establishing the proceeding leaves room for fossil-fuel solutions like trucked-in gas and even more pipelines. And that is why we are reaching out to you. It is going to take all of us to ensure the change is for the better.

Three ways to get involved:

1) Join us on Monday, May 18th from 1:00-2:00 for an on-line teach-in about the state gas proceeding ([link removed]) featuring AGREE's Executive Director Jessica Azulay, Radina Valova of Pace Energy and Climate Center, and Kim Fraczek and Lee Ziesche of the Sane Energy Project.

2) Sign your organization on to our letter. ([link removed]) Deadline for signing is Friday, May 22nd.

3) Submit an individual comment today ([link removed]) to the Public Service Commission telling them to stop the gas infrastructure buildout and help with the conversion to renewable heat now.

Hoping this email finds you and your loved ones safe and with the resources that you need.

PLEASE share the three ways to get involved throughout your networks.

All our best,

Alliance for a Green Economy
