John --

Oklahoma law requires the Chairman of each political party to notify the Secretary of the State Election Board by the end of November the year before an election year to determine whether the party will be a closed primary or an open primary allowing non-party members to vote in their elections.

I hand delivered my letter last year letting them know the Oklahoma Republican Party will NOT allow non-party members to vote in our elections. The Republican primary is for Republicans. It should be as simple as that.

However we face a new battle before us. There are those who are pushing for “open primaries”. Some may presume that just because it contains the word “open” that it is a good & positive thing. But open primaries are a terrible idea. It’s as much of an oxymoron as calling someone an honest thief! Why in the world would we allow DEMOCRATS to vote in Republican primaries? That’s what is accomplished with their “open primary” plan.

It would be like letting an atheist vote for who your next church pastor should be! Allowing leftists, democrats, & people who hold totally contrary views to vote in the Republican primaries is beyond ludicrous.

Unfortunately several elected officials who are registered Republicans have been pushing for this ridiculous idea. Some may question how true of Republicans they are based on this policy. But I want to be abundantly clear, ANY Republican elected official that is pushing for an open primary system means they are ACTIVELY WORKING AGAINST the Republican Party.

If they want Democrat votes in the primary, they can get them by registering & running as a Democrat! Not by trying to allow democrats to vote in our Republican elections.

The three elected Republicans who are publicly supporting and actively pushing this plan against the Republican Party are:

OKC Mayor David Holt
Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum
Labor Commissioner Leslie Osborn

If they continue to push this misguided & damaging plan in order to get those democrats votes they so desperately seek, we should all encourage them to make the switch to the democrat party rather than allow them to continue trying to destroy our Republican primary elections from within.

I encourage you to contact each of them & firmly yet politely express your displeasure & disagreement with this terrible course they have set out on.

We at the OKGOP will do everything we can to protect the integrity of our Republican primaries & ensure only REPUBLICANS can vote in our Republican elections. We ask that you unite with us. Together we can stop this lunacy.

For the People,

Nathan Dahm
OKGOP Chairman
