Full Fact has launched its government policy tracker to assess how the government are getting on implementing their manifesto

A secret obsession of Full Fact is data. We love looking at a spreadsheet and devising ways to get to the truth of what it shows.

So when a member of our team suggested churning through a lot of data about the current government's policies we were at first very excited and then quite determined.

What has come from this is our Government Tracker, our attempt to take all that information and give our subscribers (and the public at large) a way to see how the government is doing, based on the promises set out in Labour’s manifesto during the 2024 general election.

We’re starting small as we want to spend time making sure we produce high quality information and upholding our standards of precision and impartiality as we go through each of the party’s pledges.

Our verdict

Labour increased employers’ National Insurance contributions in its Autumn 2024 Budget. But as its manifesto failed to offer a clear definition of what its pledge on National Insurance meant, whether the pledge has been kept or broken is unclear and disputed.
