Service alert: Household Hazard Waste facility will be closed from December 15, 2024, through January 15, 2025, for repairs






Household Hazardous Waste Facility will temporarily close for repairs beginning Dec. 15, 2024

Household Hazardous Waste facility

The Household Hazardous Waste facility [ [link removed] ], located at 5551 SW Imperial Way, Bremerton, will be closed for repairs to the fire suppression system from Sunday, December 16, 2024, through Wednesday, January 15, 2025. The facility is expected to reopen on Thursday, January 16, 2025.

Products labeled with the words "danger, caution, flammable, warning, toxic, poison, or combustible" require special disposal to protect human health and the environment. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility accepts these items from Kitsap, Mason and Jefferson County households at no charge and from businesses by appointment.

Alternative household hazardous waste disposal locations

Olympic View Transfer Station [ [link removed] ] and the Recycling and Garbage Facilities, [ [link removed] ] in Hansville, Olalla, and Silverdale collect the following hazardous household items free of charge:


* Antifreeze from personal vehicles "(limit five gallons per day)
"
* Motor oil from personal vehicles "(limit five gallons per day)
"
* Small household ​batteries "(alkaline, button, rechargeable, lithium) 
"
* Sharps from households "(limit three containers per day). Follow packaging requirements [ [link removed] ] carefully. 
"
* Vehicle batteries "(less than 50 pounds)" – Not accepted at Olympic View Transfer Station
* CFL compact fluorescent bulbs" (limit 10 per day)" – Not accepted at Olympic View Transfer Station
* Fluorescent tubes "(limit 10 per day)" – Only accepted at Hansville Recycling and Garbage Facility

Kitsap County also has special collection sites for paint, mercury-containing lights, medications, and other items that require special handling. Search the Waste Wizard [ [link removed] ] to find these locations.
