For over a decade, Rio Tinto’s mine has polluted Mongolia's water, air, and land.

The company said it would compensate the Mongolian herders but it hasn't kept its promises.

John,

For over a decade, Mongolian herders have endured the devastating impacts of Rio Tinto's Oyu Tolgoi mine. The company’s actions show a pattern of environmental devastation and human suffering. It’s time we stop it.

The massive copper and gold mining project has disrupted local water sources in Mongolia, polluted the air with dust, and made the once-fertile land increasingly barren. Despite repeated promises to compensate herders, ensure clean water access, and protect the environment, Rio Tinto continues to fail the people whose livelihoods are on the line.

And it isn’t an isolated case. In Madagascar, Rio Tinto's mining operations have caused untold damage to local ecosystems. Radioactive leaks from its QMM mine have poisoned lakes, killing fish and leaving local communities struggling to survive. These communities, just like the herders of Mongolia, are left waiting for Rio Tinto to repair the harm it has caused.

Rio Tinto is one of the world’s largest mining corporations - and will do everything possible to avoid bad press. Let’s take the advantage and spread the word to demand:

Rio Tinto, follow through with your promises: pay the Mongolian herders!

Despite Rio Tinto’s claims of sustainability and responsibility, destruction follows wherever the company operates. A landmark report reveals that Rio Tinto is also responsible for ongoing human rights abuses at its gold mines in Bougainville.

Back in Mongolia, Rio Tinto’s promises remain unmet while herders struggle to maintain their way of life. The company’s operations in Madagascar have left lakes toxic and communities helpless, while its projects in Bougainville are entangled in human rights violations.

Rio Tinto must be held accountable for the environmental destruction and human suffering it is causing. Mongolian herders' demands are not new to the company – their rights to clean water, healthy land, and a sustainable future must be upheld.

The Ekō community has always acted in defence of the people and the planet, and this time shouldn’t be different. Sign now to demand that Rio Tinto stop endangering the livelihoods of Mongolian herders and take immediate action to protect their land, water, and future.

Rio Tinto: pay back the Mongolian herders!
