You Can Help End Homelessness
Every story of homelessness is a story of perseverance. It is a story of hope and resilience – both for the person experiencing homelessness and the community of support working alongside them. As we strive to end and prevent homelessness, your support is crucial.
It can feel overwhelming to witness the challenges our country faces that further exacerbate the homelessness crisis. More than 250,000 people experienced unsheltered homelessness, living outside or in other places not fit for human habitation like a car, at last count in January 2023. That’s equivalent to nearly a third of Washington, D.C.’s population.
Existing shelter capacity is not enough, leaving many without a safe place to go. With more than 200,000 fewer shelter beds for adults than needed, studies show that nearly 90% of people experiencing homelessness would move into housing if available and accessible. But every year, new individuals fall into homelessness faster than resources can keep up. The good news is that there are proven solutions.
