Dear VCC Community,

I was very impressed with Dr. Sam Bailey last week. While Dr. Bailey is best known for her stance on contagion and the lack of scientific evidence of the existence of viruses, I was more impressed with her personal journey. Dr. Bailey admitted that she vaccinated her children. She simply accepted the position of the health authorities on faith. Dr. Bailey said she now regrets her decision, or rather her lack of making an informed decision.

It was Dr. Bailey’s willingness to revisit foundational beliefs that impressed me. Dr. Bailey described how her husband Dr. Mark Bailey came to her one day and said “I don't think there's any evidence for the existence of SARS-CoV-2.” And I was like, whoa. What are you saying? What are antigens? What are antibodies?  What are you talking about? And he's like, I'm not 100% sure, but I think that we need to look into this. And so we did. 

Dr Bailey said: “My life trajectory really changed and I started researching all sorts of different areas which I thought I knew because we all do, don't we? We all think we know everything and now I look at life and any topic that I'm interested in and I say, I don't know anything and I'm going to look into it myself and figure this out.”   

Dr. Bailey is modeling what all of us need to do today. We need to revisit what we think we know or what we’ve been told is true. I constantly wonder what I believe today that I’ll learn isn’t true tomorrow.

Dr. Bailey also shared another nugget during the interview. She shared how she makes decisions when the emotion of fear is present. She asks herself the question – “If I wasn’t afraid, what would I do?” In this way Dr. Bailey takes fear out of the decision. It was a fabulous interview. I encourage you to watch it if you haven’t already.

The world is a complex and complicated place. It is impossible for each of us to understand and evaluate all that is presented to us on a daily basis. In our efforts to manage the complexities of life we take short cuts. We trust. We trust in the wisdom and integrity of others to inform us on matters that we are unable to research and evaluate for ourselves. 

At one time we could rely on the declaration that consensus was reached. Unfortunately, the process of consensus building has become much less collaborative and evidence based and is more often “manufactured”. Science once offered us confidence that a statement, fact, or conclusion was true based upon a rigorous and verifiable process using the scientific method. 

Where once we could trust the scientific method, today science has been co-opted for economic and political gains and no longer is a valid seal of approval. Science, like other aspects of our society, has been corrupted by power and politics and is no longer in service to the truth. It is in service to those in power and who have enough money to determine the outcome of science. 

The efforts to manufacture consensus are effective because people have a minimal tolerance for conflicting views on a subject of key importance. Humans are wired for consensus and prefer consensus to difference. While consensus is certainly desirable, the question is whether the consensus is based on solid, supported evidence, or whether the consensus has been manufactured and is actually for the good of a small group of individuals or organizations? We would be wise to be cautious in accepting consensus positions when other motives are involved that can corrupt a true consensus process.

35 Million Babies Who Got the Shot Now at Risk as Adults (CHD The Defender) - The thimerosal-free HibTITER pediatric vaccine marketed by Wyeth (since acquired by Pfizer) from 2003 through 2007 was linked to 19 medical conditions, according to a study by Children’s Health Defense scientists. She presented her work on how the fetal DNA that contaminates MMR vaccine is at the root of autism. Edda includes a summary of her work in her article, Vaccine Awakening, in the Spring/Summer 2017 issue of the VCC Journal.
