In following CDC guidelines, we're postponing all in-person events until it's safe to gather again. This has a direct impact on our fundraising; if you were thinking about supporting Run for Something this year, your generosity is especially needed right now. Hi John --
I'm always proud of our candidates, but seeing the ways they've gone above and beyond for their communities over the last few months has blown me away. A few things you might have missed:
- Illinois State Senator Robert Peters is sponsoring a plan to cancel rent and mortgage payments for 180 days, and ban evictions and block foreclosures for six months. It’s personal for him, as he explained: “My mom died a few years ago with $300,000 of housing debt. I kept thinking about how she, like millions, was used as a pawn in a larger financial sector game. She was used as an investment tool for someone somewhere else.”
- In New York, State Senator Jessica Ramos has been distributing hot meals and bags of fruits and vegetables from her district office -- last week, she served over 34,000 pounds of food to more than 700 families.
- Brianna Lennon, Boone County Clerk, wrote a piece for ELGL.org on three things she’s thinking about as an elections administrator and how she’s doing her best to facilitate safe and accessible voting.
- New Hampshire State Representative Matt Wilhelm is proposing a statewide public service program to enable folks to do wellness-checks with their neighbors, build capacity for emergency response, and provide meaningful work when it’s most needed.
This year doesn't look the way any of us expected, and we're seeing exactly why it matters to give new, passionate young leaders a chance to make decisions. If you're proud -- and ready to elect more young progressives like Robert, Jessica, Brianna, and Matt -- chip in today.
