Dear Friend,
In case you haven’t heard, Medicare Open Enrollment has started! This is your time to choose or change your Medicare health plan and prescription drug coverage for next year. We’ve made some important improvements to Medicare so keep reading to learn more about how we’re lowering your health care costs.
In 2022, Democrats passed the Inflation Reduction Act. (Fun fact: I presided over the House floor during its passage!) This law gave Medicare the power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices. As a result, Medicare has capped the cost of insulin at $35 per month for seniors.
Starting this January, total out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs will be capped at $2,000 per year under Medicare, no matter how expensive your medications are. That means that seniors will never pay over $2,000 per year for prescription drugs covered by Medicare – even for expensive drugs that treat cancer, chronic illnesses, or anything else.
Along with these cost-saving benefits, thanks to Democrats, Medicare negotiated with pharmaceutical companies to lower prices for 10 of the most expensive and common prescription drugs under Medicare. These benefits will go into effect in 2026, and Medicare will keep negotiating more prescription drug prices.
That’s why every senior in our community should take advantage of these new, lower-cost Medicare benefits and look into your drug coverage for 2025 during this year’s Medicare Open Enrollment.
You can learn more about these benefits and ensure you’re enrolled in the Medicare Part D plan that’s best for you at Medicare.gov. From now until December 7th, you can compare and change your 2025 coverage.
I’m working hard to ensure everyone can find and afford the health care that meets their needs, and I’m proud of the progress we’ve made so far. But I know there’s still a lot of work left to do – so I won’t quit fighting to lower costs and help families in San Diego.
