Media figures on cable news and high-ranking officials in the Democratic Party might be tuning out, but for the people living paycheck to paycheck, relying on social safety net programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, with kids in public schools, seeing their rent, insurance, and childcare payments skyrocket — we cannot afford to just sit back and watch the next four years happen.
As Bernie said shortly after the election, “While the Democratic Party leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change.”
It’s on us right now to strategize as a grassroots progressive movement and chart a path forward. We must fight Trumpism and the billionaire class. We must prevent the wholesale privatization of government services and stop more tax cuts for the rich. We must build for a future where Democrats embrace the economic and social issues that make a winning coalition AND a material difference in the lives of the American people.
