Over the past couple of weeks, we have been standing by as Donald Trump makes some of the most dangerous and unhinged Cabinet appointments we’ve seen in presidential history.
Instead of picking experts in their fields, the President-elect is choosing only his most loyal followers for positions in his administration—to the detriment of the American people.
Last week, Donald Trump selected Representative Matt Gaetz as his Attorney General. This pick, besides being misguided, is terrifying. With a House ethics investigation and serious misconduct allegations against him, Matt Gaetz should not be in charge of how justice is served in this country.
For the Department of Health and Human Services, Donald Trump chose Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—a vaccine conspiracy theorist with no experience in running a government agency or in health policy. RFK Jr. is a political opportunist who will not “Make America Healthy Again,” but will endanger the health of our families.
On top of these bizarre appointments, Donald Trump has also appointed fossil fuel titans and Big Oil advocates to our environmental agencies. He is putting climate change deniers in charge of our energy production and putting the oil industry’s interests ahead of the American people and our environment.
It seems like every day we get a news alert of another confusing Cabinet appointment. Donald Trump is using his administration positions to test the loyalty of the Republican Party. He doesn’t want actual experts running our federal agencies, but his loyal supporters who will appease his every whim.
As we gear up for next term, we need to remain united against this administration and their hateful and unhinged decision-making. We have to stand together.
