Ballet Afrique, Austin’s first all-Black en pointe dance company, is excited to present Duke Ellington’s: The Nutcracker Suite. The production, which is set in Harlem during the Harlem Renaissance period of the 1920s and 30s, promises to be a grand spectacle of opulence and a positively joyous treat for the entire family. The young dancers will take patrons on a journey of resilience as the talented ballerinas of Ballet Afrique tell the story of Claranette’s family’s resilience, triumphs, and magic through the Great Depression and amid Jim Crow, all set to the score of Duke Ellington.
