News: After a long wait, we are so excited to publicly announce that the California Harm Reduction Initiative (CHRI) Request for Proposals (RFP) will go live on May 20th! Back in January, we announced ([link removed]) that the national Harm Reduction Coalition had been selected by California Department of Public Health, Office of AIDS to lead the California Harm Reduction Initiative (CHRI). Our role as a grantmaker will support staffing at eligible syringe service programs and technical assistance with the goal of expanding the range, reach, and quality of harm reduction services in California!

Resource Guide: COVID-19 Resources for People Who Use Drugs and People Vulnerable to Structural Violence ([link removed]) — Our COVID-19 resource page and Google Document ([link removed]) are always up-to-date with the latest best practices and tips for reducing risk during this crisis.

Event: Caring in a Crisis ([link removed]) — Join Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC) for their Care in a Crisis series, which spotlights approaches to providing high-quality care for underserved demographics during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has further complicated how to leverage harm reduction: access to syringe service programs, availability of wound care supplies, resources for clients engaged in survival sex, continued provision of medicated assisted treatment, and more.

PCDC’s Kristin Potterbusch and the Harm Reduction Coalition’s Nathalia Gibbs and Kacey Byczek will spotlight what providers need to know and the practical guidance you may be missing. Tuesday, May 19, at 2 pm ET

Event: Advocates Panel ([link removed]) — Join the Drug Policy Alliance and the Center for Drug Use and HIV Research (CDUHR) for a two-part panel addressing ways to make research more accessible for policy change. The first panel will feature the national Harm Reduction Coalition's Deputy Director of Planning and Policy, Daniel Raymond, as well as panelists from VOCAL-NY, National Advocates for Pregnant Women, and Katal Center for Health, Equity, and Justice. Friday, May 29, at 9:30 am ET

Op-Ed: Truth and Consequences ([link removed]) — In this Op-Ed, Mary Howe of Homeless Youth Alliance reflects on the loss of a member of our community and the systemic shortcomings that are ultimately responsible.

** Meet Logan Benton
Title: Grants Manager
------------------------------------------------------------
Meet Logan Benton (she, her, hers) — Logan is a radical southerner, licensed social worker, and certified case manager, serving as the Grants Manager for Harm Reduction Coalition where she is intentional about establishing and implementing systems around participatory grantmaking and “nothing about us without us”. While harm reduction has been a part of Logan’s life for about fifteen years, she began doing the work professionally in 2014 while employed at an HIV clinic covering fourteen counties throughout rural, eastern Alabama. She has experience doing HIV/HCV screening, education, linkage to care, case management,
retention/re-engagement, navigating through drug court systems and treatment facilities, programmatic monitoring/reporting, grant writing, grant administration, and equine-assisted therapy. She is passionate about meeting people right where they are at with the understanding that they are the experts of their own lives. This directly carries over to how she functions as a grantmaker - with full recognition that programs led by members of the respective community are the experts in those communities. Logan and her two dogs are currently based out of Birmingham, Alabama.
