“They’re Going for Full Fetal Personhood”
Statement from Reproaction Co-Founder, President, and CEO Erin Matson

In response to reporting in The Guardian that Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is actively laying the groundwork to create fetal personhood at the federal level, Reproaction Co-Founder, President and CEO Erin Matson issued the following statement:

“You can’t say anti-abortion leaders and groups are hiding the eight ball. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and Students for Life of America are two of the largest organizations working to ban all abortions. Following the election, they have both openly confirmed that they are seeking nothing less than so-called fetal personhood at the federal level.

This is not only a national abortion ban. Fetal personhood also pushes out access to contraception and fertility treatment.

They wanted you to believe they were leaving abortion to the states.

They wanted you to believe they would leave birth control alone.

They wanted you to believe they weren’t coming for IVF.

Fetal personhood leads to an inevitable place: criminalization of the actual people seeking to end, prevent, or even begin pregnancies.

Of course, this is exactly what anti-abortion leaders and groups actually want. Their goal isn’t to protect rights, but to take them away. Fetal personhood is a tactic and tool right out of the authoritarian playbook, and we need to fight it with everything we’ve got.”
