The Week Ahead

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will consider legislation condemning the global rise of antisemitism and calling on countries and international bodies to counter antisemitism. On November 8, 2024, the world watched in horror as hundreds of Jews were ambushed and attacked in Amsterdam following a soccer game. The uptick in antisemitism and antisemitic attacks following October 7, 2023, have been disheartening, and the world must do better. After the Holocaust, we pledged “never again”. There is no place for antisemitism, and it will not be tolerated.

Meeting with President Trump

On Election Day, the country gave Washington, D.C. a mandate. We rejected the far-left policies of open borders, out-of-control federal spending, and Green New Deal policies and made it crystal clear that we want policies that put America First.

I met with President Trump last week to discuss that mandate, and I am looking forward to partnering with the President on our agenda. We will reduce federal spending, secure the border, unleash American energy independence, promote American innovation, and end the weaponization of the federal government once and for all. I will always fight for our conservative Kansan values in the nation's capital.

Demanding Accountability for FEMA Political Bias

Earlier this month, it was reported that a FEMA supervisor sent a message instructing works to “avoid homes advertising Trump.” FEMA tracking records confirmed that homes with yard signs supporting President Trump were skipped for assistance because of this directive.

Last week, my House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee colleagues and I, sent a letter to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell condemning the agency’s guidance to withhold disaster relief efforts from homes with pro-Trump signage. Under no circumstances should the federal government discriminate against Americans based on their politics. Read the full letter to the FEMA Administrator here.

Fighting for Families in the Big First

For many working families across Kansas, the decision to attend a college or university comes with a great deal of financial planning. When the FAFSA process becomes unnecessarily delayed, students and families become unsure whether they can afford these opportunities, and educational institutions risk missing out on exceptional talent. I voted to create a hard deadline of October 1 for a FAFSA release date to hold the U.S. Department of Education accountable while putting Kansas students, their families, and their futures first.

In February 2023, I introduced the Family Farm and Small Business Exemption Act to restore exemptions for family farms and small businesses under FAFSA. When young people from families that own family farms or small businesses apply for higher education, the assets tied up in those entities should not count against them.

I will not stop fighting for commonsense solutions that support families and help America thrive.

Kansas Hospital Association

The Kansas Hospital Association is a leading organization committed to providing support to the hospitals of Kansas. During our meeting, we discussed programs like 340B that serve as essential safety nets for rural communities while keeping costs down. We also talked about the importance of supporting policies that benefit our nation’s Critical Access Hospitals, and ways that we can continue to support and improve the Rural Emergency Hospital program. All Kansans should have access to affordable, quality, and accessible health care, and it is with the help of KHA that Kansans can receive the best care possible.
