November 19, 2024: Weekly Newsletter | It’s official — the House Oversight Committee will mark up my bill, the Dismantle DEI Act, tomorrow, Wednesday November 20th, at 10:30am ET. This bill will end government DEI programs by abolishing DEI offices, rescinding divisive regulations, and restoring a merit-based system in the United States government. It’s time to end this wasteful and discriminatory misuse of taxpayer dollars. You can tune into the hearing here. | Demanding Answers from ICE after Texan Killed by Illegal migrant in Bastrop County | Senator Cruz, State Rep. Gerdes, and I are demanding answers from ICE after an illegal migrant, previously deported five times, tragically claimed the life of a Texas man in Bastrop County. Despite past deportations, the suspect re-entered the U.S. under the Biden-Harris Administration's current policies. Texans—and all Americans—deserve a secure border and safe communities, and we’ll keep pressing for accountability and effective policy. State Rep. Gerdes also announced plans for “Grayson’s Law” to tackle illegal immigrant crime at the state level. The Department of Transportation has awarded $4.6 million to the Texas Triangle Rail Revitalization Project. This funding will upgrade the Texas Gonzales Northern Railway (TXGN) by replacing seven aging timber bridges that are vulnerable to wildfires and limited in load capacity. These upgrades will allow TXGN to handle modern railcars, boosting efficiency and safety for the critical rail line connecting Harwood and Gonzales. This project will strengthen our local economy by supporting key industries like agriculture, lumber, and energy, while also helping reduce highway traffic. TXGN’s 30% matching funds will maximize the federal investment, creating long-term benefits for Gonzales County and the surrounding area. But instead, public health officials continue to hide behind the Biden-Harris Admin, and asked for more funding and more power instead of offering answers or taking any accountability. Americans are sick of the excuses. | On SiriusXM I spoke with Julie Mason about the tragic case in Bastrop County, where an illegal migrant—previously deported five times—took the life of a fellow Texan. Alongside Senator Ted Cruz and State Rep. Stan Gerdes, we’re demanding answers from ICE on how this suspect was able to re-enter under the current border policies. Our offices will continue until there is accountability and change in our immigration policies. | One of the most rewarding ways our office serves the people of Texas' 27th District is through casework. This means assisting residents who are facing challenges with federal agencies—whether it's resolving delayed benefits, navigating red tape, or advocating on your behalf. We’re here to help clear the path so you can get the answers you need. Recent Casework Success Stories: DeeDee from Nueces County DeeDee reached out to our office after experiencing a significant delay—over 90 days—in receiving her 2023 tax refund from the IRS. Our team filed a congressional inquiry on her behalf, and soon, her refund was directly deposited into her account. David from Dewitt County David and his wife were also facing delays with their 2023 tax return. After over 90 days without resolution, they turned to our office. Following a congressional inquiry, they received their refund as well.
