John,

Marc Goldwein is one of the worst people in DC. He’s not very famous, but he’s a Senior Vice President at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, one of the many billionaire-funded DC think tanks that have promoted cutting Social Security and Medicare over the years.

Last night, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez embarrassed Marc Goldwein into deleting his Twitter account. But this means more than a few funny tweets. The same moneyed interests behind Goldwein are backing challengers to AOC, hoping to elect someone who will kowtow to them instead of someone willing to stand up for the people. Chip in to help AOC fight back!

First, AOC exposed the weak calls for charity in response to COVID-19, deftly making the case for the wealthy to pay their fair share in taxes―a system that groups like Goldwein’s have worked to destroy over decades:

@AOC: If only there were some public fund billionaires could pay into along with everyone else that helps fund our infrastructure, hospitals, and public systems all at once. It could even be a modest % of what they earn every year. We could have an agency to collect it and everything

Goldwein didn’t get the joke, and made sure everyone knew it:

@MarcGoldwein: This describes an income tax

AOC then explained her joke to Goldwein:

@AOC: Quite amused by the men in my mentions volunteering to explain my own joke to me.

And, embarrassed, Marc Goldwein deleted his account:

This is a fun story, because Marc Goldwein is an insidious DC operator who has worked to weaken our government and enrich himself and his funders. But this Twitter fight has real-world implications: AOC is unafraid to take on billionaires and their minions like Goldwein.

AOC might not be afraid of billionaires, but they’re afraid of her. That’s why they’re pumping tons of money into her primary race next month, backing a right-leaning challenger who would make the Goldweins of the world much more comfortable.

We need people like AOC in Congress who will fight for Medicare for All and expanding Social Security. Chip in $5 today to help her beat back this challenger!

Thanks,

Alex Lawson
