So, where do we go from here?

As the Deputy Campaigns Director at California Environmental Voters, I’m hearing this question a lot right now—and I get it, the work ahead feels daunting and uncertain at best.

But here’s what’s giving me hope: 12 of our major climate bills were signed into law just this year, we galvanized Californians to vote for and pass a $10 billion dollar climate bond, and California was the first state to set accountability of climate emissions on the biggest polluters.

As the fifth largest economy in the world and home to 1 in 8 Americans, California will have the most consequential role to play in championing climate action nationwide.

California is one of the last lines of defense for bold climate action under Trump—we know the country and world will be watching.

California Environmental Voters has a huge part to play in defending and advancing climate progress. But we need all our supporters, present and past, to recommit to our mission at this critical time. Can we count on you to make a contribution—or even better, become a monthly supporter?

California is sending the largest and greenest congressional delegation to Washington—and it’s up to us to ensure they’ll be climate leaders in the nation’s capital. Soon, we’ll have to defend the Inflation Reduction Act, mitigate harm in the new Farm Bill, and protect public lands from oil drilling.

And we won’t just be defending against attacks from the Trump administration; California has a renewed mandate to light the way for state and global action on climate justice and democracy.

Our state has been leading the way on the global stage for years. It’s California who has sent delegations to UN Climate Summits—not the U.S. With the Trump administration likely to pull out of global climate agreements, this state has a duty to be a forward looking voice on climate and prevent dangerous rollbacks.

We can’t back down. No matter where you live, you can be part of the movement driving California’s powerful work on climate action. Please consider becoming a monthly supporter of our mission—we’re in it for the long haul.
